5* Script Editing Service
The only thing more noble that writing is helping other writers realise their own potential. That’s at the heart of my script editing service. A good editor doesn’t tell writers how to fix their work, they stimulate them to find the answers that were always hiding beneath the surface.
Every script is unique, and every writers challenge is their own. The industry, however, has standardised processes of communicating with writers during development. My goal with my script editing offering is to help writers realise their potential and prepare them for one of their most important professional relationships; between themselves and the productions script editor.
Through this method, I’ve seen a growing success. While still in a period of growth, I have maintained a 5* level service, and hope to continue that as I develop the service further.
Marketing the Service
My primary marketing takes place on my writing website, where the service operates as a branch of the Tongue in Cheek Writing brand. It is linked on the header of every page, and the shown adverts feature currently on every new blog post. I also featured the right advert in August’s edition of ‘The Exciting Incident’, my monthly newsletter.
Outside of this, I market exclusively on social media, which you can find linked at the top of this page.
Current Tiers of Support
-
My most basic offering provides writers with on-page proofreading and copyediting notes.
This service is targeted at writers reaching the final stages of their final draft; one last proofread before submitting to a producer or open-call.
If needed, I will offer some basic story suggestions and questions, but this tier doesn’t support full-length analysis
-
This is my main level of support. A full, industry standard script report for writers that covers a breadth of topics:
Structure
Character
Theme
Medium Language (formatting)
Audience
and more.
The purpose of this tier is to provide writers with an accessible, analytical, and deep insight into how audiences and editors would perceive their story in its current state.
As with all tiers, direct suggestions are to be avoided, but questions will be designed to intrigue and inspire writers towards their own solutions.
-
Top tier support is essentially the same as mid-tier, but with one enormous difference:
I will write a synopsis to be used for pitching.
For many writers, synopses are the hardest part of writing. So invested in the minutiae of their story, the ‘bigger picture’ can be hard to nail down.
So, alongside a professional script report, I also offer this crucial service to writers that may need it.
-
What I offer is more than a one-sided assessment of someones writing, it's also the potential for a new creative relationship.
Attached to each tier of support is the option to add a feedback session, where I sit with the writer and we discuss the decisions they’ve made, and my responses to them.
Example Script Reports
It’s one thing to say I can do something, but without evidence, why would anyone hire me?
So, in the early days of Tongue in Cheek, I decided to put together a few script reports for scripts that can be found online. You can read two of those reports here!
