Welcome to my copywriting portfolio! Stories are everywhere, and everywhere is only getting bigger. As a copywriter, my main strength is helping audiences distill those disparate stories into digestible, accessible copy. While those skills are incredibly important to my role as a freelance script editor, this portfolio will focus on my broader approach to copywriting.

This portfolio will showcase my two main copywriting ventures, my educational writing blog, Tongue in Cheek Writing (where this portfolio is hosted), and the Exciting Incident, my fast-growing local newsletter that aims to help rebuild a writing community in Cardiff, South Wales.

Just because the content is serious, doesn’t mean the copy has to be. Tongue in Cheek Writing has a clear mantra - “Tabloid Tone, Textbook Accuracy”. It’s here that I create effective, engaging copy with one singular goal; to inspire writers to engage with the future!

How? Facts, evidence, research, and a tone of voice you’d find in the countries most depraved tabloids.

How to Write: With a Transmedia Twist!

Writing blogs are everywhere. To be set apart, Tongue in Cheek needed to have its own twist. As a future-focused writer, that USP was always going to be on Transmedia Storytelling.

The ‘More than an Anecdote’ branch of the Tongue in Cheek blog is aimed at reminding writers that an interconnected story universe isn’t creatively bankrupt, it’s artistically exciting! Each article is linked to the teachings of well-respected creatives and scholars, and focuses on the practical applications of tried-and-tested techniques in a new storytelling frontier.

Tongue in Cheek Writing went through a transformation in June 2025, from a disjointed collection of articles to a complete brand with focus and drive to develop. My niche is small, but I’ve managed to take the Instagram (@tongueincheekwriter) to 125 followers at time of writing.

Along with the refocus, I began expanding my copy into different mediums. Primarily, video.

From Reels to video essays, it’s my aim to make Tongue in Cheek a creative network that spans more than just the written word. Like what I teach, I want it to be a Transmedia experience.

The Exciting Incident

‘The Exciting Incident’ is Tongue in Cheek’s first expansion into community-led copywriting. Taking the ‘Tabloid Tone, Textbook Accuracy’ slogan of the brand to the next level, ‘The Exciting Incident’ is a Substack-based newsletter made by a Cardiff writer for Cardiff writers.

Each edition contains a library of upcoming events, deadlines, and local showcases that are tailored for writers.

It also features an article written by myself, about myself, in a 'writing life’ segment looking back on my month in writing.

Most importantly, it has a topical article of the month, something that writers need, in the moment, that they can’t get anywhere else.

Writing for writers based in Cardiff is a small niche, but with only two editions I already have 9 subscribers, and plan to use Instagram’s marketing features to expand this in September 2025 by capitalising on the influx of students to the city.
