First and Foremost, I am and always have been a writer.
This section of my portfolio is dedicated to the projects I’ve written, the successes I’ve had, and my slate of projects going forward. This page was last updated 20 September 2025. For up-to-date progress, click the button below or head to @tongueincheekwriter on Instagram.
What I Write and Why
It’ll be unsurprising to learn that, as a gay man in my late 20s (nearly 30 - ew), that sexuality features heavily in most of my writing. Maybe it’s a calling, maybe it’s immaturity of craft. Whatever it is, it holds a place in my entire library to date.
In recent years and months (perhaps unsurprisingly) my writing has taken on a political skew, though this never obstructs the drama at play. If drama is conflict, then rising political and social tensions can breed strong, long-lasting drama. Drama I intend to write and collaborate on.
As I grow, and as I help more early-career writers via my freelance script editing work, my own craft has blossomed this year. This, I’m hoping, will become apparent as you look through this growing collection of work.
Looking through, you’ll be forgiven for noticing my body of work is… thin. For that, you can blame my undergraduate lecturer who, upon graduating, gave me some advice that stunted and saved my writing career.
“Go and live. Go and get a shitty job, have a shitty relationship, and enjoy your 20s. The writing will be here when you’ve got something to write about.”
So, now at the ripe age of 29, my writing life is just beginning. I’d love to make you a part of it!

10 Years, 10 Projects
After living in Cardiff for over a decade, I decided to chart my writing progress across 10 projects I’d written since moving here.
From stories of Purgatory trials about characters who don’t know if they deserve heaven or hell to a one-person play about a mid 20s gay escaping the clutches of a Catholic upbringing, my writing has… happened.

I Have Sinned
My pride and joy. The bane of my life. The ‘One Person Show’ I need to get out of my system.
‘I Have Sinned’ was featured in the 10 Years, 10 Projects post linked above, but it’s continued well past that post.
Young Gareth is GONE
Gareth is now called JOSH
The main drama of the play now takes place during the hookup.
Writing is rewriting, and after this rewrite, the story will be done. After this draft, the story will have achieved what I set out to do 3 years ago when I started writing. It will reconcile my sexuality and my devout upbringing. Will it do so in a story that will resonate with audiences? Maybe, maybe not.
Either way, ‘I Have Sinned’ has taught me a lot. I put on a live reading, re-learning all the trappings that come with that. I got professional feedback from a theatre-owner. And, most importantly, I have finally understood how to manage a narrative theme.
I hope ‘I Have Sinned’ will see the light of day, but if it doesn’t it will still have served its purpose.

I Have Sinned
Josh fucks. Because he enjoys it. He’s not picky who fucks him, or where. But even he can’t pass up the opportunity to be fucked by his teenaged crush. The fact that both he and the older man were devout Catholics and altar boys when Josh realised he had the crush isn’t going to come up… right?
One Person Show - THEATRE
MOTHERSHiP
When travelling deep space, astronauts rely on two things: their fellow crew mates, and the in-ship Maintenance AI known as the Mothership.
The Mothership’s one mission is to nurture the crew on their long voyage and keep the ship in order. In many ways, the Mothership is the eternal captain. But as with all space voyages, they eventually come to an end, and the crew will no longer need the Mothership.
Well, not if she has anything to say about it…

The Local
The small West Country town of Steepcombe once had a plethora of Free Houses, Conservative Clubs, and other booze houses. Now, its final pub has been saved from closure by a “benevolent” London pub chain looking to save this British institution, no matter how badly he has to treat the staff, the locals, and the house prices. To prove his benevolence, he’s putting the whole venture on camera in a ‘peek behind the bar’ documentary.
After failing to quash the subsequent documentary, see what really happened when London came to town.
