OCTOBER WRITING CHALLENGE

Screenplay title page for short film 'Mothership' by Josh Gasan of Tongue in Cheek Writing

It’s finally here! I did it! Yippee for me!

To those that don’t follow me on Instagram (@tongueincheekwriter btw) you likely won’t know that this month I challenged myself to write a short film, start to finish, in one month. I started on 1st October 2025 and now, as the month comes to a close I present to you:

MOTHERSHIP

Three brothers. One overbearing Mothership AI. A deep space disaster. It’s a recipe for success, surely?

I won’t lie to you, this challenge has been the best mistake of my life. I’ve been so stressed I wouldn’t get it done in time. One week of this month was completely wiped out by the Iris Prize LGBT+ film festival, where I spent copious amounts of time volunteering or drinking (and watching films. Another week and a half of the month I found myself wrapped up in two major freelancing projects (check me out on Fiverr). All while working full time in a job where I’m still learning the ropes.

But I did it! I’m going to do a full write up and maybe a video on the process of writing under such strict constraints, but for now I’ll just let you enjoy the script! Or not. It might be rubbish, but in my defence I wrote it in under a month!
